*Plastic Free Champions are members that have eliminated all of our key plastic items (straws, coffee cups & lids, takeaway containers & lids, foodware (cutlery, plates, cups etc), water bottles & bags).
Plastic Free Places NQ started in March 2020 under the name 'Plastic Free Townsville'.​ After six years of working alongside cafes, councils, suppliers and communities, the Plastic Free NQ program officially came to an end on March 31, 2026.
What started as a small pilot grew into a statewide program supporting businesses with practical change. Together, we eliminated more than 2.3 million single-use plastic items!
This work would not have been possible without the ongoing support of the Queensland Government, Department of Environment and Science.
While the program has wrapped up, the guides, case studies and tools are still available to support businesses across Qld.
